Surf: contest season arrives at Zicatela

November is when *Zicatela's* famous beach break, the "Mexican Pipeline," starts firing consistently again after the smaller swells of September and October. It's also when the international contest calendar picks up on the Oaxaca coast, drawing a heavier crowd of traveling surfers, photographers, and spectators to the beach break for the events. Expect busier lineups and fuller restaurants on contest weekends specifically — the rest of the month is simply a strong, high-energy start to the season. Beginners should still stick to *La Punta* or *Carrizalillo*, especially once the swell picks up past intermediate level at Zicatela.

Crowds: the shift becomes obvious

The quiet stretch of September and October is fully over by mid-November. International travelers arrive in growing numbers, long-stay snowbirds start settling in for the winter, and restaurants, beach clubs, and yoga studios visibly pick back up. It's not yet the peak crush of December–January, but the town's energy — live music, busier streets at *La Punta* sunset, fuller surf schools — is unmistakably back.
